E'SPA RESTORATIVE MUD ENVELOPMENT

What is it?
A mud wrap with a scalp and hand massage. The treatment starts with a full body exfoliation using a stiff-bristled brush to soften the skin. Next, the therapist rubs a warm, mineral-rich marine mud all over your body, before wrapping you up in silver foil. While the mud works its magic, you are treated to a scalp and hand massage. Then the mud is removed with hot towels and you hop into the shower to rinse off.

How does it feel?
Odd. Being wrapped up and left to sweat in sheets of foil made me feel like a Christmas turkey, basted and ready to go in the oven - although the E'spa essential oils and mud smell great. Unfortunately, the hot towels were only lukewarm and were slightly reminiscent of having a hospital bed bath.

Strip off or cover up?
Strip off, and be prepared to give the therapist access to your wobbliest bits.

Does it work?
Yes and no. You're constantly being moved around, so it's not especially relaxing. Mind you, the therapist was keen to point out that this is a restorative treatment, not a pampering one.

Who is it for?
Athletes, as it soothes muscular aches and pains, and anyone with superficial skin problems.

Celeb following or Z-list?
A real celebrity would probably take a private jet to wallow in the mineral-rich marine mud at its source, rather than have it smeared on them in a hotel in Glasgow.

How much does it cost?
£50 for 55 minutes.

Is it worth it?
For me, no. But anyone suffering muscular aches and pains might find it does the job.
